Grace Lives in Our Stories
Originally written for a reflective song and worship night, this liturgy holds space for the quiet ache we often carry alone—grief, confusion, weariness, or just the weight of being human in the world.
Whether your community is processing a shared loss or simply needs to exhale together, this liturgy offers a spacious, grounded way to be present to one another and to God. Gentle enough for broad use. Deep enough to make room for sorrow and hope alike.
First we sang some songs, then we read part 1 of the liturgy, sang another song and had a poem recitation, read part 2 of the liturgy. Then folks were invited to share stories of grace in their own lives before finishing with more songs.
Part 1: Holding the Moment
Reader 1: We gather here tonight, each carrying a story. Stories of hope, stories of grief, stories still unfolding. And in this moment, we pause. To notice. To breathe. To remember.
Reader 2: Jesus, you meet us here—in the depth of presence, in the savoring of this moment, in the glimmers of goodness that shine through.
All: Grace lives. We notice, and we hold this moment.
Reader 1: Gratitude isn’t a dismissal of the pain we carry. It’s a grounding presence — a tether that connects all of who we are to the reality of who God is.
Reader 2:It reminds us that even when we feel forsaken, even when life feels fractured, we are not alone.
All: Grace lives. We notice, and we hold this moment.
Reader 1: We choose gratitude—not to sweep away the pain, but as a counterweight to life’s heaviness.
Reader 2: We choose to notice what glimmers: moments of connection, wonder, and hope. And together we declare—
All: Grace lives. We notice, we hold, we remember.
Part 2: Transformation Through Story
Reader 1: We are transformed by the stories we tell, by the stories we hear. Our lives unfold, moment by moment, each one a thread in the tapestry of grace.
Reader 2: We choose to hold these threads with wonder: stories of our ancestors who carried wisdom, stories of our neighbors who reflect dignity, stories of our own—messy, sacred, and still unfolding.
All: Through presence and story, grace lives.
Reader 1: Jesus, you do not forsake us. You sit with us at the table, you call us by name, and you invite us to remember—not just who we are, but who we are together.
All: Through presence and story, grace lives.
