How to Be a Christian
A podcast for reimagining belonging after a faith shift
This is a podcast for people who've had a faith shift and don't know where to go next. Spiritually homeless — not because they stopped caring, but because the tradition that formed them stopped fitting.
I know that place. I grew up in white evangelicalism believing we had the capital-T Truth. When I became a mother, that framework shattered, and the identity I'd built as a "faithful Christian woman" collapsed with it.
What I've found since is that Christianity is far wider than I was taught. Each episode, I sit down with faith leaders from a different tradition — Episcopal, Lutheran, United Methodist, UCC, Catholic , Anabaptist, Black Church, Progressive Baptist — and ask three things. What does this tradition carry? Where does it fall short? And what would belonging inside it actually look like?
I'm not trying to sell you a denomination. I'm trying to widen the map.
There is no single way to be a Christian.
How to Be a Christian is funded by a grant from the Louisville Institute. Hosted by Chelsea Kim Long, writer, lay theologian, and author of Faithfully Dissident Daughters: Reclaiming Christian Womanhood Beyond Patriarchy (Westminster John Knox, September 2026).
