📚 Book club read: Cassandra Speaks: When Women Are the Storytellers, the Human Story Changes · Elizabeth Lesser | This book was very influential for me when I read it many years back. I can’t wait to read it and discuss it! Remember that you can hop in to book club any time by becoming a paid subscriber (monthly or annual).
📚 In the middle of reading: The Black Madonna: Icon of Resistance and Nourisher of Souls by Christena Cleveland | This just released on July 7! I listened to the audiobook read by Christena herself and it’s absolutely a gem. GO GET A COPY. I so love and admire the way that Christena so intentionally centers Black women while also being genuinely invitational to all who want to learn and benefit from her work.
📚 Just finished: Wreck by Catherine Newman. This book was mostly a disappointment. It’s a follow up to her book Sandwich, which I LOVED. This one is the same family, but it’s just not capturing me in the same way.
📚 Seasonal read: An Altar in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor | This is an older one, but it’s good for summer. Embodied, everyday spirituality (walking, eating, getting lost, wearing skin) rather than a heavy theological lift.
📚 Timely recommendation: A Hymn to Life by Gisele Pelicot | I’m getting ready to read this one. I’m a bit nervous, but it’s an important one. Let me know if you’ve read it and what your thoughts are.
What are you reading? Have you read any of these? I'd love to hear back from you; just hit reply!
