I'd rather feed people
Four dinners, two conferences, and a party in my neighborhood.
As I thought about launching Faithfully Dissident Daughters, I knew that a bookstore or church tour was an option. Reading, time for Q&A, a signing table, everyone home early. I like those events.
I'd rather feed people.
So this fall I'm doing four Crowded Table dinners. A Crowded Table is a dinner and a liturgy around the table — we eat together, we read some prayers aloud, and there are prompts at every seat for the kind of conversation that doesn't usually happen over dinner. Some of the earliest Christians did this in houses, around tables. It didn't look like church as we know it, but it was church.
Every ticket includes a copy of the book. There's a sliding scale, and if cost is the barrier, email me and we'll figure it out. The rooms are small on purpose and open to all genders. It's for people who are done performing certainty, and for anyone sitting on the edges of the tradition wondering if there's still a seat at the table.
